No damn egg, no damn cream–but egg creams are tasty nonetheless.
Yes, I prefer a chocolate ice cream soda, but that’s a little rich for daily consumption. I usually reserve it for special occasions, like driving to Carrizozo or losing the state spelling bee (long story).
We happen to have an excellent household carbonation system, provided by the good folks at Adler Health (sorry, Walter the Seltzer Man–I miss you, but my husband…he has his own way of doing things). So soda-fied drinks are just a quick spritz away.
And what better soda drink than an egg cream? A drink from a time when, according to Adler, “men were men and milk was milk.” See the recipe here.
If you’re thinking you want your own seltzer bottle and CO2 cartridges–or they’d make an excellent gift–give Adler a call. Rita’s the name of the woman who answers the phone–tell her the Greek guy in Astoria sent you (my husband).
Or, if you live in any of the four boroughs except Brooklyn, you might be able to get Walter to put you on his route. Don’t drop my name there, unfortunately–things went a bit wrong when I had to stop my service. Walter, I miss you…but I think of you whenever I drink the bubbly stuff.
You are my hero. You just solved my Christmas-gift issue for my husband. I just bought him a siphon and cartridges. THANK YOU!
