I’m in Amsterdam, updating a Lonely Planet book. And, no, that does not mean I am taste-testing at every coffeeshop. Alas, that bird has flown.

Wow, so many questions. I’ll try to take care of them all at once:
1) How was rainarairairairairairairai?
2) Where did you eat in the Bijlmer?
3) Is there a good reason to go to Kapitein Zeppos other than the cool location?
4) Was Star Ferry tolerable?

Very belatedly:
1) Rainarai… was nice. Seemed a little pricey, but as a dollar-bearer, I cannot really judge. Beautiful.
2) Didn’t eat in the Bijlmer this time. Tried to have a lahmacun at a Turkish joint by Ganzenhoef–takeout, with a swish two-story loungey restaurant. But they were out of lahmacun when I rolled up.
3) Kap Zeppos upstairs has incredibly charming old Italian waiters. Though by now they might’ve retired. I cannot remember the food (two years ago), but it was perfectly fine. Again, gezelligheid rules all.
4) Didn’t eat at Star Ferry either. Showed up accidentally when the kitchen wasn’t open, between lunch and dinner. Holtkamp pastries in the case, though, at least.
For the record, they promptly cleaned up that mural and it looks fine, although if you know what was there…
