We interrupt our Dubai programming to bring you this important announcement: the newest edition of Moon Santa Fe, Taos & Albuquerque has just arrived in stores!
The new edition is packed with little goodies–some great new restaurants in Santa Fe, to start with, and various Albuquerque improvements I picked up while researching the story I wrote for The New York Times last year.
To celebrate, I’m giving away three copies of the book. To enter, just leave a comment, any comment. Entries close Sunday, April 22 at midnight EST. I’ll pick winners by random-number generator, but to make it fun, your comment could be one wacky fact you know about New Mexico.
Fun fact #1: Not many people know this, but New Mexico is part of the United States! Just kidding. Sort of.
Good luck!
Giovanni Augustini is said to be the hermit after whom Hermit’s Peak is named.
Etymology of the word comment:
comment (n.)
late 14c., from O.Fr. coment “commentary” or directly from L.L. commentum “comment, interpretation,” in classical L. “invention, fabrication, fiction,” neut. pp. of comminisci “to contrive, devise,” from com-, intensive prefix (see com-), + base of meminisse “to remember,” related to mens (gen. mentis) “mind” (see mind (n.)). The Latin word meaning “something invented” was taken by Isidore and other Christian theologians for “interpretation, annotation.” No comment as a stock refusal to answer a journalist’s question is first recorded 1950, from Truman’s White House press secretary, Charles Ross.
Jeez, I need to pay closer attention to what I’m reading. New Mexico Fact: The state cookie is the biscochito.
New Mexico has gravity.
My friend Damon told me that there’s a cross-section of people in NM who have been so linguistically isolated that they speak a medieval form of Spanish. Or something like that.
Also, it has a lightning field.
oh…let me tell ye about New Mexico! FACT: In Santa Fe, you never lose your girlfriend; you just lose your turn! Odelay! Que viva! Burn HEEM!!!
Love your Isla Mujeres app, and looking forward to the new book!
why does Naomi get to enter twice?! Shes a cheater! NM FACT: State cookie is a NOT a biscochito…its a jackalope! Red or green?
Thank goodness for the old Mexico, otherwise how would they have gotten the idea for the new Mexico?
Ta-da! I picked winners, and even adjusted for Naomi and randy the rooster’s double-commenting, so as not to skew results. But then I read your comments again and thought they were all so awesome you all deserve a book. And lord knows, I’ve got enough of them. Don’t tell the rest of the Internet that I run the world’s softest contests!
Randy the Rooster-I did not enter twice, I adjusted my entry to satisfy the rules of the competition. Besides, by my entering twice you learned 2 different facts, so pretty much, it’s a win-win for everyone. AND Zora is giving everyone a book. AND I read the state cookie is a biscochito on the Internet, and everyone knows if you read it on the internet it’s true. As for the Jackalope, that’s not a food, that’s the nickname for some ass I dated.
