Perhaps too late for some of the most congested, but Adrienne emailed me her vegetable stock recipe today (and she hadn’t even heard me hacking like an old man). Lucky me, I still have some in the freezer from the last time she made it for me… I heartily recommend:
“Put these things in a BIG stockpot (I use a pressure cooker, which saves lots of time):
2 carrots (scrubbed but not peeled, cut into pieces)
3 pieces celery (less if you use the leaves, which are perfect)
6-8 cloves garlic
2 small or one large onion, chopped
whole or cracked black pepper
2 tsp salt
Thyme
Bay leaf
Boil the hell out of them, 45 mins (12 mins in pressure cooker).
Add ½ to 1 bottle of dry white wine (optional, but tastes very good, and the alcohol part boils off). Bring to a boil again. Let stand 15 minutes, strain. Discard boiled-out vegetables. Drink 1-2 cups when you wake up and before bed, or if you are really sick, drink the whole pot while you are sitting at home sneezing. You will feel a lot better, and you will be surprised.”
