Planning a trip to New Mexico soon? If not, you should–and my posts in the next few days will mention some of the reasons why.
In the meantime, I’m giving away a couple of copies of my guidebook Moon Santa Fe, Taos & Albuquerque.
How? Just guess how many miles I put on my mom’s car in the course of this research trip.
To get you in the ballpark, I’ll tell you I was in New Mexico for 16 days, though I drove heavily only on 13 of them. And I visited the following towns:
Artesia
Belen
Carlsbad
Carrizozo
Cloudcroft
Clovis
Columbus
Deming
Hobbs
Las Cruces
Lordsburg
Los Lunas
Lovington
Reserve
Roswell
Ruidoso
Santa Rosa
Silver City
Truth or Consequences
Tucumcari
White Oaks

3801 mi of glorious southernish new mexico
what a journey, love the updates, living vicariously!
Fav Santa Fe spots : Bobacat Bite, Santa Fe Complex, Five and Dime Frito Pie, New Farmers Market Site, 2nd street, Lucky Bean (southside), View along drive up Artist Road (car), View from Cross of the Martyrs (walk), View from top of old triple (ski/hike). Pecos, truck route to Valle Caldera, Black Hole, Hot Springs, Mora….
400 miles, give or take. Of course Zora O’Neill would zigzag each city in search of the best food shops and restaurants.
Assuming that you started your mileage in Sandia Park (does Beverly still live in S.P.?) I would hazard that you drove somewhere around 1500 miles. To put that in perspective, you could have driven from Queens to Dallas or from Munich to Porto, Portugal…
I’m going to guess 4950.
Wow, sounds like you covered every corner but the very northwest.
3,500 miles.
My guess is 3824. Sheesh! That’s a lot of mileage.
2960 miles. time for an oil change!
I’m assuming your jumping off point was ABQ. So 1900 miles?
3600 miles. Dang, girl! Did I tell you that my parents now live outside of Silver City now?
