Added half a can of Goya chickpeas. Why not the whole can? I'm afraid I put them in too early, and they'll get all mushy. And the last time I used the tajine (the only time), the liquid really got all absorbed more, and more quickly than I thought.

After a couple of weeks in the interior of the Yucatan, where everyone comes up to my shoulder, Cancun was a bit of a shock. Enormous people everywhere, strolling hand in hand, necking on the beach, clambering on and off buses.

Last night was Sunday and Peter's birthday--a double call for dinner. Tamara's sharp invitation to dinner at Peter's new apartment (housewarming too: make that a triple call for dinner) reminded us it was his Jesus year, and that the birthday boy should be affectionately referred to as "you fucking fag."
